Canuck Quotes: Christopher Plummer

January 26, 2012 By Submit to Canadiana Connection

Plummer as Chang in Star Trek by Paramount Pictures

In his film Beginners, as the character Hal in response to a question from his ‘son’ Oliver:

“The chair is not gay, obviously.”

On aging and getting to play recurring roles (whether on stage or in film):

“And Hamlet you can never do well enough until you are my age.”

Plummer enjoys playing evil characters more than good ones because

“The devil is more interesting than God.”

On the continuous, never-ending fascination and adoration people have with The Sound of Music, Plummer has had much to say:

“Yeah, it drives me nuts.”

“it’s just a relentless pursuing of this film that goes on and on…”

“God almighty what is the matter with people?”

And years later, on the occasion of having to watch the film with a group of children:

“It’s timeless and I’m grateful for it.”

To round out these quotes, here’s one from the infamous General Chang of Star Trek VI fame, in responding to Captain Kirk:

“Oh, now be honest, Captain, warrior to warrior. You do prefer it this way, don’t you, as it was meant to be? No peace in our time.”
